PREGTONE Injection Overview

Composition:

• Progesterone (USP): 25 mg per ml

Indications: PREGTONE Injection is indicated for:

• Habitual abortion
• Repeat breeders
• Luteal deficiency
• Prolapse of uterus
• Induction of estrus and infertility due to progesterone deficiency
• Suppression of estrous and heat in cow, ewe, mare, and bitch

Pharmacodynamics:

• Growth of Endometrium: Enhances the growth of the glandular system for ovum nutrition and embryo attachment.
• Pregnancy Maintenance: Assists in maintaining pregnancy by providing a favorable environment for embryo survival.
• Mammary Glands: Enhances the growth of alveolar system.
• Uterus Activity: Inhibits smooth muscle activity, making it less sensitive to oxytocin.
• Hormone Inhibition: High levels of progesterone inhibit FSH and LH secretion via negative feedback.

Pharmacokinetics:

• After administration, progesterone levels elevate within the first few hours and stabilize under physiological conditions.
• Progesterone metabolism involves reduction of double bonds and hydroxylation, followed by conjugation to sulphates and glucuronides.

Dosage and Administration: Administer by intramuscular injection daily or alternate days:

• Cattle/Buffalo: 2 – 4 ml for 150 – 300 kg body weight
• Sheep/Goat: 1 – 2 ml
• Bitch/Mare: 0.4 ml

Storage:

• Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place.
