Tylosin and Doxycycline Combination Medication
Composition and Mechanism of Action:
- Doxycycline: A tetracycline antibiotic, bacteriostatic; inhibits bacterial protein synthesis. Highly effective against a broad spectrum of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria including Bordetella, Campylobacter, and E. coli. Particularly active against respiratory pathogens due to high lung affinity.
- Tylosin: A macrolide antibiotic; also bacteriostatic, targeting similar bacteria plus Mycoplasma species.
Indications for Use:
- Treats gastrointestinal and respiratory infections caused by sensitive organisms such as Bordetella, Campylobacter, Chlamydia, E. coli, and others in calves, goats, poultry, sheep, and swine.
Contraindications:
- Animals with hypersensitivity to tetracyclines or tylosin.
- Animals with severely impaired liver function.
- Should not be administered concurrently with penicillins, cephalosporins, quinolones, and cycloserine.
Side Effects:
- May cause discoloration of teeth in young animals.
- Potential for hypersensitivity reactions.
- Diarrhea in some animals.
Dosage:
- Calves, Goats, Sheep, Camels & horses : 5 g per 100 kg body weight, twice daily for 3 - 5 days.
- Poultry, Swine: 1 kg per 1000 - 2000 liters of drinking water for 3 - 5 days.
Withdrawal Periods:
- Meat: Calves, goats, sheep: 14 days; Swine: 8 days; Poultry: 7 days.
Special Note:
- Not suitable for animals producing milk or eggs for human consumption.
