Buparvaquone Description
- Compound: Second-generation hydroxynaphthaquinone
- Functionality: Effective for therapy and prophylaxis of all forms of theileriosis
Indications
- Target Diseases: Tick-transmitted theileriosis
- Affected Parasites: Theileria parva (East Coast fever, Corridor disease, Zimbabwean theileriosis) and T. annulata (tropical theileriosis)
- Efficacy: Active against schizont and piroplasm stages of Theileria spp.
- Usage Timing: Can be used during the incubation period or when clinical signs appear
Contraindications
- Vaccination Delay: Postpone vaccination until recovery from theileriosis due to its immunosuppressive effects
Side Effects
- Injection Site Reaction: Localized, painless, oedematous swelling may occur
Dosage
- Administration Route: Intramuscular injection
- General Dosage: 1 ml per 20 kg body weight
- Specific Instructions: Administer into the neck muscles; can repeat treatment in 48-72 hours in severe cases, with no more than 10 ml per injection site. Rotate injection sites for successive injections.
